Bernard and Anne Mukwavi
The vision and desire to minister to the needy and heart broken was born in Bernard Mukwavi's heart while in Bible College in Ndola, Zambia. His heart's desire was to meet the spiritual and physical needs of people. After graduation from the College he and Anne got married. The couple quickly began to put their vision into action. While serving as church planters and pastors, they opened their home to young people who needed love and care, and God blessed them with greater ministry opportunities.
God continued to increase the incredible vision that He had given the couple. For the next step of the journey Bernard was appointed National Youth Executive Director for the Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Zambia, which encompassed over 200 churches at the time. The ministry started holding youth rallies, camps, and discipleship training courses. Many young people were drawn to the couple wherever they went which impacted the camps attendance to 700 young people.
In 1992, Bernard, Anne, and their three girls moved to Holland where they were leaders of a church planting team. They helped start a church and Bible School. Doors of ministry sprung open for them, both inter-denominationally and cross-culturally during their five-year stay in Holland. Anne worked with the women, holding Bible studies and prayer meetings. She was privileged to speak at the ladies meetings and to influence the prayer lives of many women. As a team, Bernard and Anne gave marriage counseling. Their ministry sphere was continually expanding and grew to include Dutch, Indonesian, Muslim, Chinese, and African nationalities. Their ministry reached into England, Wales, and Hungary.
God challenged the couple to take a sabbatical and plan on expanding their ministry by beginning leadership development. They were to begin recruiting, mobilizing, training, and deploying workers into the mission field. The couple was led to rent a house in Zambia for the purpose of adopting six children. By this time Bernard believed that every church minister and church should have ministry directed to the needy as part of regular ministry.
The family moved to Regina, Canada in 1997. It is here that the vision of Mercy Touch Mission International began to grow and spread as Bernard and Anne had continually hoped and prayed for. Many people caught the vision in their own hearts and things came together more than what Bernard and Anne had hoped for. The couple has since seen the establishment of more than one children’s home and the vision for the establishment of children's homes has become global. This is in fulfillment of the core of Bernard and Anne's dream. Workers are being mobilized and sent to the mission field as the work has outgrown the couple. This great vision needs more than one couple to be fulfilled. Bernard and Anne currently reside in Surrey BC from where they still continue to send mission teams under Mercy Touch Mission International.
